Obituary

Marguerite T. Deragon, 96, of Woonsocket passed away peacefully Friday December 29, 2023 at The Friendly Home. She was the loving wife of the late Normand O. Deragon. Normand and Marguerite were married on May 8, 1948 at Precious Blood Church and shared over 49 years together until his passing in September 1997.
Born and raised in Woonsocket she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Anna (Picard) Lebrun. She was a lifelong resident of the city.
In her early years Marguerite worked at Finklesteins and Miller Electric. She was lunch aide for the Woonsocket Public School Department for nearly 30 years until retiring in 1998. After her “official” retirement Marguerite stayed on as a floater at Bernon Heights Elementary school until 2003.
Beginning in 1998 and for the next 20 years Marguerite worked part time at Consumers on Hamlet Ave. where she became a familiar welcoming face to many in the community.
Marguerite was a longtime communicant of St. Agatha’s Parish. She was a member of the St. Charles and Holy Family choirs. She enjoyed participating as a member of the St. Agatha and St. Joseph senior citizens groups, the Red Hat Society, BESG Seniors and the AARP.
Marguerite kept her mind sharp through word search games and kept up on current events by reading the newspaper cover to cover daily.
Marguerite will be remembered for her love of her family and her outgoing and friendly personality. She was a strong and independent woman who was the rock of her family.
Marguerite was the loving mother of Jeanine Saunders and her late husband John of Pittsburgh PA, Claire Boyes of Barrington, Elaine Irons of Bishop CA, Robert Deragon and his wife Karen of Woonsocket, Marc Deragon and his wife Kerrie of Ft. Washington PA, Donald Deragon and his wife Donna of North Smithfield and the late Paul Deragon (who passed away in 2021) and his surviving wife Doris “Dot” Deragon of Woonsocket. Marguerite was the cherished grandmother of 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Alfred Lebrun, Beatrice Ross and Lilian Cote and is also survived by her brother-in-law Maurice Deragon of Port St. Lucie, FL and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Relatives and friends are invited to honor, remember and pray for Marguerite at her funeral Saturday January 6, 2024 at 9:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St Agatha’s Church, Joffre St. Woonsocket. Marguerite will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband Normand at Precious Blood Cemetery, Woonsocket. Visiting hours are Friday January 5th from 3:00-7:00pm.
