Henry R. De Wilde, 95, died Thursday, December 28, 2023. He was born in New York, New York on February 4, 1928, son of the late Maurice and Josephine (Van Pebourg) De Wilde.
He was the beloved husband and true friend of 66 years to the late Barbara (Klug) De Wilde. The first of their many travels around the world was their honeymoon trip on a 1949 Harley 74. They lived in New York, Ohio, Florida, and were full-time RV'ers for four years before returning to upstate New York. They then finally settled down in Fairhaven to be closer to family.
Henry honorably served in the United States Army during WWII.
He was formerly employed as a Vice-President at the Case Western Reserve University in Ohio.
Henry enjoyed cooking, camping, sailing, swimming, traveling, and had a passionate appreciation of gardening. He also loved being a handyman around his home.
He is survived by three children, Kathy, Mark, and Joann De Wilde; six grandchildren, Adam (Heather) Katz, Julia (Mike) Scully, Kal (Polina) Nyer, Molly (Junior) Dias, Barbara Jean De Wilde, and Moria (Mike) Kemp; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son, Rick De Wilde.
Henry will be greatly missed by his family.
