Helen Cleghorn Cowan, 74, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Coffee Regional Medical Center, in Douglas, Georgia,
Family will receive friends Saturday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Cowan was born October 11, 1949, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Cecil John Cleghorn, Sr. & Mary Edna Sheffield Cleghorn. She graduated from Irwin County High School in 1967 and worked for GTE and Alltel as an operator and in the sales department. Mrs. Cowan enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren and her great-granddaughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Malinda Cowan & Timothy Hamilton of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Briana Cowan, Chandler Cowan, Michael Hamilton, Ryan Hamilton, Cody Cowan and Nick Cowan; great-granddaughter, Braxtyn Cowan; two sisters: Linda Clark of Mystic and Sandra Stanley & Tommy of Abbeville; and one brother, Johnny Cleghorn & Diane of Ocilla. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Edwin Cowan, Sr., a son, John Edwin “Eddie” Cowan, Jr.; and a nephew, John Wesley Clark.
