Obituary

Agnes A. DeSaulniers, 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on December 26, 2023. She was the cherished widow and longtime companion of Arthur G. DeSaulniers, who passed away in 1978.

Born on May 11, 1930, in Somerville, Agnes was the daughter of the late John F. Rooney and Euphemia (MacQuarrie) Rooney. Growing up in Somerville, she attended local schools and later resided in Walpole and Melrose before eventually settling in Tewksbury, where she resided since 1985.

Agnes treasured the moments spent with her family and friends, holding each relationship close to her heart. Her joyous pursuits included celebrating life’s big moments with family and friends, shopping, dancing, watching Boston Bruins Hockey, trips to Hampton Beach and Falmouth, and ice skating. A devout communicant of Saint William's Church, Agnes also enjoyed a lengthy and successful career with New England Telephone (Ma Bell). Starting as a telephone operator, she climbed the professional ladder, retiring after an impressive 50 years of service as the executive secretary to the treasurer.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and is survived by her sisters-in-law, Margaret Rooney of Buzzards Bay, and Frannie DeSaulniers of Marshfield, along with her nieces and nephews: John T., Marcia, Nancy, Craig, Tracy, Marie, Robert, Kathy, Susan, Joe, Paula, Patrick, and Scott. Agnes is also survived by numerous grandnieces and grandnephews, as well as great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, John F. Rooney Jr. and his wife Jean, Mary O'Nell and her husband Robert, and Joseph N. Rooney.

Agnes will be dearly missed but fondly remembered for her warmth, kindness, and the indelible mark she left on the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.

Agnes was generous to the many charities that she held close. In lieu of flowers it is requested that you make a donation to the charity of your choice.
