Obituary

Northborough: George R. Skoglund, 77, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, University Campus surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his wife of almost 52 years, Edita S. (Almonzar) Skoglund; a son Caleb E. Skoglund; a grandson David E. Skoglund; and a brother and sister-in-law Richard and Susan Skoglund of Michigan.

George was born in Worcester, son of the late Gustaf and Veda (Erikson) Skoglund. He graduated from North High School, earned his Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from WPI, and earned his Master's Degree from Colorado State University. He worked for the Army Corp of Engineers for several years and as a technical writer at the former Digital Computer Company for over 16 years. He volunteered for the Salvation Army in its rescue mission, as a bell ringer at holiday time, and serving meals on Sundays. He also volunteered for the Trustees of the Reservations, primarily at Crane Beach in Ipswich, MA. He enjoyed gardening, photography, cheering on his son Caleb at soccer and basketball games, and traveling- especially to the beach.

George had a special bond with his grandson, David, and cherished all the time spent with him. Whether it was reading books, going on day trips to parks, zoos, or museums, or picking him up from school, George enjoyed every moment. Their favorite activity together was gardening.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 from 9:30- 11:00 a.m. at Nordgren Memorial Chapel 300 Lincoln St. Worcester, MA 01605. A funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in All Faiths Cemetery.
