Judith Mae (Hamilton) Granara, age 81, a retired Medford public school teacher, passed away peacefully on December 25th surrounded by her loving family after a courageous two-year battle with lymphoma.
Judy was raised in Medford and attended Medford public schools. A true Medford Mustang, she was a member of the cheerleading squad and was elected Senior Class Vice President. She took particular delight in helping to organize her class reunions every five years through the 50th anniversary in 2010. Judy attended both Salem State College and Boston College and taught in
Arlington and Medford, where she later retired. She taught the elementary grades until her retirement. In addition to public school teaching, Judy was also a Sunday school teacher at the Wesley United Methodist Church. She was active with the local Girl Scout and Brownie troops in the city of Medford and could often be seen dropping off carloads of children to the local skating rinks and CCD classes.
Judy was the oldest child of the late John M, Hamilton and Hazel M. (Adams). The devoted wife of John R. Granara, Jr. of 56 years. Loving mother of John R, Granara, III and his wife Rachell of Wilmington and Kelly South and her husband Steven of Medford. Cherished grandmother of Jordyn, Isabella, and Alyssa Granara and Steven and Matthew South. Dear sister of Richard Hamilton and his wife Christine, Dale L. Hamilton-Powers of Falmouth and her late husband John J. Powers and the late John “Jackie” Hamilton. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford, on Friday, December 29th from 4 – 8 PM, and again on Saturday, December 30th at 10:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM in Saint Joseph’s Church, 118 High Street, Medford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Judith’s memory to the Granara-Skerry Trust to benefit Pancreatic Cancer Research at Massachusetts General Hospital, www.pancure.org or P.O.
