James P. Luby, 78, of Manchester, NH, passed away peacefully on Christmas Day, December 25, 2023 after a period of declining health. James was born on April 2nd, 1945 in Lawrence, MA and was the son of the late James and Jennie (Hannagan) Luby.
James proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with the Fleet Marine Force Combat Operations Insignia for service performed in a combat zone, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbons and Good Conduct Award. He continued his service until his honorable discharge in 1986.
James was predeceased by his wife Priscilla Leith Luby and daughter Tasha Sergel. He is survived by children Thomas Doucette and his wife Lisa of Blytheville, AR ; Robin Doucette of Chelmsford, MA; and Piper Sharick and her husband Dana of Corfu, NY.
James was also predeceased by his sister Eileen Crook with whom he shared a special bond. He always appreciated the friendship and loving support of his sister and affectionately called her “Sis”. He missed her dearly when she passed in 2021.
James was known as Jim or Jimmy to his friends. All who were fortunate enough to meet or know him would tell you how nice a guy he was. Despite the many challenges life threw at him, he always persevered and kept smiling. Jim enjoyed following and watching the New England Patriots. James was a man of modest means but very generous and giving of all he had. He enjoyed reading and was well versed in a variety of subjects. He was a conversationalist with a great sense of humor.
He is also survived by his nephews Scott Michaud and his wife Genevieve of Center Barnstead, NH; Todd Michaud of Plaistow, NH; and Daniel Michaud and his wife Krissy of Windham, NH; and his niece, Jennifer Michaud and her husband John Lee of San Mateo, CA as well as several great nieces and nephews.
Following cremation, calling hours will be held on Tuesday January 23, 2024 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry, NH with a service to follow at 7:00pm. The burial will be Wednesday January 24, 2024 at 2:00pm in NH State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy., Boscawen, NH.
