James Butler, 77, of Westport, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Frances I. (Borden) Butler.
Born in Fall River, son of the late James F. and Rosailene (Rutz) Butler, he was a lifelong resident of Westport. Prior to retirement he was a carpenter who also worked for AMTRAK in Boston for 30 years. Mr. Butler loved animals, playing cards, trips to the casinos, building things, and tinkering on lawn mowers with his son and grandson. He also enjoyed cooking and pickling with his family.
Including his wife, he is survived by 2 sons: William J. Butler of Dartmouth and James A. Butler of Westport; a daughter: Cheryl I. Butler-Souza and her husband Roland "Butch" Souza of Westport; a sister: Marcia Van Degriend of CA; 3 grandchildren: Rebecca Butler, Jesse Butler and Elijah Butler; and several nieces and nephews.
He was brother of the late John Butler, Kenneth Butler and Jane Simons and lifelong friend of the late Jay Carmichael.
Graveside service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Beech Grove Cemetery at 11:00 A.M.
