Cynthia A. (Henriques) Sylvia, 66, of New Bedford passed away Monday December 25, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was the wife of Kenneth J. Sylvia.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of Julia (Mello) LaPlante and the late James Henriques, she lived in New Bedford all of her life. She was a graduate of Bishop Stang High School.
Cindy was a dedicated employee of the City of New Bedford for 42 years. She began her long career as a secretary for the Emergency Medical Services, then as a clerk in the Assessor’s Office, and finally as a senior systems analyst in the Management Information Systems Department until her retirement.
She loved being at home with her family, making puzzles, and reading books. She absolutely adored her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth; her mother Julia; her children , Nicole Harrison and her husband Chad, Jenna Jenkins and her husband Nick, Kevin Sylvia and James Sylvia and his wife Kayla; her stepdaughters, Cynthia Sylvia and Christina Sylvia; her siblings, Donna Henriques, James Henriques and his wife Donna, Antonio Henriques, George Henriques and his wife Karen, and David Henriques; her grandchildren, Aiden Martin, Layla Harrison, Tatum Jenkins, Carter Sylvia, Erika Sylvia, Timothy Trigueiro, and Cody Trigueiro; and nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Julia Catunto.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Southcoast Cancer Center, 206 Mill Rd., Fairhaven, MA 02719.
