Kenneth J. Gleason, 73, a lifelong Lowell resident, passed away after a long illness at Tufts Medical Center in Boston on Thursday, December 7.
A son of the late Patrick Gleason and the late Dorothy (Estright) Gleason, he was born in Lowell on July 28, 1950. He was educated in Lowell and shortly after he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served with the 4th Infantry Division & 101st Airborne Division and received several awards including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign medal, the Air Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. After his honorable discharge he came home to Lowell where he worked on the tree gang with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for many years.
“Creepy” as he was lovingly known by his family loved and collected many types of music, especially “The Beatles”. He also enjoyed fishing, especially with his brothers. His beloved family will sorely miss his witty sense of humor. In his free time, he previously volunteered with the Merrimack Valley Vietnam Veterans Inc. of Lowell.
He is survived by his sister, Deborah Gleason Wright of Lowell, Kathleen Gleason Calden of Manchester, NH, Louise (Cindy) Gleason Rocheleau and her partner, Robert Trainor, of Lowell and Cheryl Gleason Bouchard and her husband, Raymond, of Londonderry, NH a brother in law, Ernest Dickieson of Pepperell and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings, the late John (Jack) Gleason and his wife the late Lillian LaCourse, the late Patricia Gleason Dickieson, the late Ronald “Butch” Gleason. He was also predeceased by his 2 brother in laws, the late Ronnie Rocheleau and the late Dave Wright
On Saturday, January 20, 2024 all are welcome to attend his visitation from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816. His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. His burial will take place at a later date including military funeral honors at the Massachusetts National Veterans Cemetery in Bourne.
