WINDHAM- Cheryl Lynn Cline, age 63, passed away on 21 December 2023 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after a yearlong battle with heart and lung issues. She was surrounded by members of her loving family.
She was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late James Sprague and Maxine Campbell. At age 6 her family moved to Calais, Maine where she graduated from Calais High School in 1978. Cheryl then went to the University of Southern Maine where she earned two bachelor's degrees, the first in Social Welfare and the second in Elementary Education. Later she obtained a master's degree in Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina. She was a fourth and fifth grade teacher in Maine and South Carolina before becoming an assistant principal for six years- in Pelion, South Carolina- and then a principal for twelve years at elementary schools in Dayton, Naples and Auburn, Maine prior having to retire due to her health in June of 2023.
Cheryl enjoyed her family, as well as her many friends. She also very much took enjoyment in her career, and it showed in all the lives she touched in wonderfully positive ways. She reveled in her frequent verbal combats with Scrabble Zoey, read books constantly and delighted in thoughtful conversation in the sunshine on the deck at her home in Windham or on hiking trails anywhere, from Lubec, Maine to California.
She was predeceased by her brother David and has another brother Kenny, whose whereabouts is sadly unknown.
Cheryl is survived by her mother Maxine; her grieving second husband Tim; her children Layne, Gareth and Callean; her stepchildren Nathaniel, Rachel and Eren; her two grandchildren Vivian and Layla, plus their father Nate (Rachel's husband); and her first husband Jeff as well as numerous other relatives in her large extended family.
A celebration of life is being planned on a date to be determined. Cheryl's ashes will be scattered at varied locations she held dear to her heart. Online condolence messages can be submitted at www.mainefuneral.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Southern Maine, 390 US Route 1, Scarborough, Maine 04074 for their kind support and comfort of Cheryl in her final hours.
