Laurinda B. Silva
LOWELL Laurinda B. (Silva) Silva, 94, of Lowell, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Lowell General Hospital after a long battle with dementia. She was the beloved widow of the late Juventino B. Silva who died in 2015 after 62 years of marriage.
A daughter of the late Jesuina and the late Manuel Silva, she was born August 23, 1929, in Gracious, Azores, Portugal, and was raised and educated in Portugal. In 1971, she came to the United States settling in Lowell’s Back Central Street Neighborhood, and was an active member of St. Anthony’s Church.
Family and faith were the cornerstones of Laurinda's life. Time spent with her children and grandchildren, especially cooking for them, were some of her favorite moments. In addition to cooking, she loved to knit. In her earlier days, she worked for Paris Shoe and Carol Shoe in the Lowell Mills, but being a wife, mother and grandmother was truly her life's work.
Her survivors include her son, John Silva and his wife, Nina, of Tewksbury, and her daughter, Isabel Fidalgo and her husband, Joao, of Lowell; her beloved grandchildren, Natalie Fidalgo of Lowell, Calvin and Evan Silva of Tewksbury, and grandson, Jason, who predeceased her. In addition to her many nieces and nephews, she is survived by four sisters in law, Rosa Espinola and her husband, Manuel, of Lowell, Maria Horta of Lowell, Durvalina Silva of Lowell and Maria N. Silva of Lowell.
She was the last surviving sibling of the Silva family and was also predeceased by her brothers in law Manuel Silva, Joao Silva, Alexandrinho Silva, Saleotino Silva and Edelberto Horta. She is also predeceased by her sisters in law Georgina T. Silva and Maria N. SIlva.
On Saturday, December 23, 2023 all are welcome to attend her visitation from 8 - 10 a.m. at the McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, 978-458-6816. Her funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m. at ST. ANTHONY CHURCH, 893 Central Street, Lowell, followed by burial in St. Mary Cemetery.
