It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Mary Louise (Healy) Hahn, on December 17th, 2023-just eleven days shy of her 78th birthday. Mary was born in Mishawaka, Indiana on December 28, 1945 to Earl E. and Ethel Healy, the youngest of six children. The family relocated to California when Mary was 12 years old where she later attended and graduated from Azusa High School in 1964. Later, Mary was at her sister Nancy's house one afternoon and met a young Navy man who was there with Nancy's husband. She ended up marrying Jim on December 9, 1967. In fact, dad brought mom a bouquet of flowers on their 56th anniversary, a week before she passed. They lived their married life together in Ventura County, settling in Ojai in 1978 where they remained until her passing.
Mary loved being a mom and grandmother. She was remembered by many as a “Mom” to them, from helping to run Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops to bringing teenagers into her home to live when they needed a place to stay (on more than one occasion). For most of her adult life, Mary and Jim owned and ran D.I. Construction in Ventura, California until they closed the company in 2010. She and Jim ate lunch together at the office almost every single day. When the grandchildren came along, they incorporated them into the company, putting a crib in the corner of the office so that they could be full time grandparents while still running the company. Anyone who knew Mary knew that being a grandmother was her greatest joy in life, and that her four grandchildren continued to be the light of her life until her passing. In her retirement, she enjoyed crocheting, making and donating many lap blankets and other projects to local hospitals and nursing homes.
Mary is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jim. She is also mourned by her children James (Buddy) Hahn and wife Teresa of Ojai, daughter Beth Kaser and husband Garrett. The apples of her eye were grandchildren Megan Kaser of Phoenixville, PA, James (JD) Kaser of Ojai, Kevin (wife Stacie) Bowen of Santa Barbara, and Ashley (husband Kyle and children Sammi and Jude) Vaughn of San Diego. She is also survived by several nephews and nieces. Mary was preceded in death by her parents as well as her siblings. The family wishes to extend thanks to Nickie Perez and the staff at Mountain Vista in Ojai for being so supportive and fighting so hard for mom in these last few months.
Funeral services will take place in 2024 and will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 757 E. Main Street,
Ventura.
