Dr. Ronald Mitchell Hughes, 84, of Tifton passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at his residence. A Requiem Mass will be held for Dr. Hughes at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2024, at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Tifton with the Rev. Leeann Culbreath officiating.
Born December 23, 1938, in Gainesville, Georgia, Dr. Hughes was the son of the late Junius and Cleo Barrett Hughes. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Leon Hughes; and five sisters, Vynelle Hughes, Wilma Hughes, Colleen Hoodpyle, Doris Dodd and Sue Caygle. Before retiring, he was an ophthalmologist and a lawyer. He served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy; and he was a member of Project Hope and Doctors without Borders. He was a member of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Tifton.
Dr. Hughes is survived by his wife, Ra’ Hughes of Tifton; and one son, Hil Hughes of Marietta.
