Fred John Meda, Jr., 84, of Norfolk died December 19 at the Home Health Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the husband of Robena (Campbell) Meda for the past 60 years.
Born in Cambridge, January 30, 1939, the son of the late Fred J. and Lillian (Cervin) Meda, Fred had been a resident of Norfolk since he was 7 years old.
Fred had been a mechanic at the family auto repair shop in Brighton for many years.
Fred enjoyed spending Summers at his home in Price Edward Island, Canada for many years.
Although afflicted by Multiple Sclerosis for many years, it did not stop him living life to the fullest. He swam in the Paralympic in Korea in in the 1980’s. He was the first handicapped rower to participate in the Head of the Charles Regatta. Fred also enjoyed hand cycling and doing woodworking.
Fred served in the Army during the early days of the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of SP4.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Fred J. Meda III and his companion Kelly Trueb of West Warwick, Rhode Island and Paul M. Meda and his wife Cheryl of Douglas.
He is also survived by his sister Shirley Cronin of Norfolk and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 27 in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin at 1:00p.m. Burial will be in Norfolk Cemetery, Norfolk.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday, December 26 from 4-7 p.m.
