Obituary

Douglas W. Barr, Sr., 74, of Millis, died Sunday, December 17, 2023 at Beth Israel Deaconess
Medical Center in Boston. He passed away, peacefully, with his wife and children by his side. He was the beloved husband of Jacqueline F. (Rubino) Barr for 38 years.

Born in Needham on May 22, 1949, he was the son of the late Gordon E. and Barbara N. (Kearns) Barr.

Doug grew up in Needham and was a resident of Millis for the past 40 years.

He was very passionate about his 20+ years of work as a meat manager at Shaws Supermarket in Medfield beginning his career at the young age of 14.

Doug’s happiest moments were spending time with his family. He enjoyed, alongside his wife, being his 5 childrens’ and grandchildrens’ biggest fan in all their life events, especially sports and dance recitals. He looked forward to his familys’ annual camping trip in North Conway, New Hampshire. He considered the White Mountains and the fresh water of the Saco River to be his most favorite home away from home. He was an avid New England Patriots fan, as well as other Boston sports teams. His family will miss his humorous and
animated stories of his life.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son Douglas Barr, Jr. and his wife Lauren of Medway, four daughters, Jennifer Pinto and her husband Josinei of Millis, Tiffany Anderson and her husband Derek of Millis, Amanda Barr of Millis, and Ashley Kelly and her husband Christopher of Franklin.

He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Matthew, Christopher, Madison, Colin, Scarlett, Greyson, Lydia, Douglas, III, Olivia, Jackson and Ava.

Doug is also survived by his sister Gayle Pennington and her husband Allen of Middleboro, his brother-in-law Fred Anderson and many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Gordon “Bunny” Barr, Jr. and Sheila Anderson.

Doug’s funeral arrangements will be held privately at the request of his family and are under the care of the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (ginleyfuneralhomes.com).
