NORTH GROSVENORDALE, CT – Robert J. “Bob” Dumaine, 76, died unexpectedly Monday, December 18, 2023 in Webster Manor, Webster, MA.
He leaves his wife of 30 years, Elizaeth M. “Betty” (Gonyea) Dumaine of North Grosvenordale; a son, Kenneth Dumaine and his wife Michelle of Valrico, FL; a daughter, Jenny Backlund and her husband Al of Maine; 3 grandchildren, Brandon Dumaine, Gilon Backlund and Cedar Backlund; 2 brothers, Richard Dumaine of Nevada and Paul Dumaine and his wife Margery of Providence, RI; a step-son, John Nelson and a step-daughter, Janet Hadlock and her husband Glen all of Thompson; 3 step-grandchildren, Kyle Darling, Ashley Hadlock and Gray Hadlock; many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his sister Helen Hobbs.
He was born on September 19, 1947 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island a son of John and Jeanne (Desmarais) Dumaine and graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1965. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Johnson and Wales College. Bob and Betty lived in Uxbridge for 20 years before moving to North Grosvenordale 4 years ago.
He was a veteran of the US Navy during the Vietnam era. He served on the aircraft carrier USS Lake Champlain and was based in Keflavik, Iceland.
Mr. Dumaine worked as a courier for Citizens Bank before retiring in 2012.
Bob had a booming and infectious laugh, which went along with never ending jokes he would tell. His motto was lovingly, "I GOTTA BE ME" He was the Star on his family TREE. He loved both people and animals and would light up a room with his presence. He was always there for his family, ready to help with whatever needed to be done. He focused his love of animals into his volunteer work at the North Smithfield Animal Shelter.
