Obituary

Paul M. Martinek, 90, of Worcester, passed away on Tuesday, December 19th in St. Vincent Hospital. He leaves his five children: Margaret (Meg) Harris and her husband, John of Tampa, FL; Holly of Worcester; Paul J. Martinek and his husband, Bruno da Silva of Deland, FL; Dennis Martinek of Evans, GA; and Michael Martinek of Key West, FL. Six grandchildren also survive him: Ryan Harris and his wife, Amanda of Atlanta, GA Danika Wells of Tampa, FL; Duncan Harris and his wife, Alicia of Plant City, FL; Alexander Harris of Tampa, FL; Grace Martinek of Boston, and Jack Martinek of Southbridge; and two great-grandchildren, Melina Wells and Ezra Harris.

Paul was born in Worcester, the son of Alexander and Margaret (Bogar) Martinek. Paul earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1955 from the College of the Holy Cross. Upon graduation, he was commissioned into the United States Air Force and subsequently served in the Reserves. Paul was fortunate to have the freedom to pursue his multiple interests and career paths during his lifetime. His favorite was his time spent working in operations at Eastern Airlines during a vital, transitional period in U.S. aviation and national security.

His entire life, Paul was a passionate New England sports fan, an avid MSNBC viewer, and very engaged in the politics of the United States and the world at large. He loved his cats, Johnny Pesky and Dr. Jill Jacobs Biden.

Towards the end of his life, Paul supported the Team Beans Infant Brain Tumor Fund at Dana-Farber. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to this important charity, in memory of Francesca ‘Beans’ Kaczynski at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284.

His funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family. O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue is assisting the family with arrangements.
