In Loving Memory of Margaret A. MacDermott
Margaret A. MacDermott, age 83, of Bedford, NH, passed away peacefully on December 15th, 2023. She was born on June 8th, 1940, in Keene, NH, to Eliot and Julia Priest. Margaret spent her formative years in Keene before moving to the North End of Manchester during her teenage years, where she graduated from Manchester Central High School.
Margaret was a woman of immense intellect and passion. She possessed a voracious appetite for reading, enjoyed solving puzzles with great enthusiasm, and had an unyielding thirst for knowledge.
She pursued her academic ambitions, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English from the College of New Rochelle and a Master of Arts in Philosophy from Saint John's University in Queens, NY, where she later taught and met her husband, Wallace MacDermott. They moved back to NH, first living in Manchester and later moved to Bedford where they raised their three children.
Margaret had a successful career in real estate, she began her journey at Houck and Hall Realty and later established her own business, Marg MacDermott Realty. She was the on-sight realtor at The Village Green where she resided and served as the board president. She continued to further her education, attaining a Master of Education in Counseling from Notre Dame College in Manchester, NH and worked as a career counselor.
Margaret was a trusted sounding board to all who knew her. Her legacy of kindness, and intelligence, along with her infectious laugh, will be fondly remembered. She enjoyed traveling the world and found great happiness on the Maine seacoast in the summers. Margaret was a great cook, and all were welcome at her table. She especially enjoyed eating lobster with family and friends.
Margaret is survived by her three loving children: son Ian MacDermott and wife Sue of Bedford, NH; son Derek MacDermott and wife Kris of Westford, MA; and daughter Kimberly MacDermott of Sarasota, FL. Additionally, she leaves behind four cherished grandchildren: Liam, Makayla, Riley, and Meghan. She also leaves behind her ex-husband Wallace MacDermott and his wife Alison. Margaret and Wally remained close throughout her life. Margaret was predeceased by her parents Eliot and Julia Priest, her twin Nancy Fillat, sisters Mary Foster, and Patricia Priest.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 22nd, at 10:30 AM at Saint Catherine of Siena Parish in Manchester, NH. Friends and family are invited to join in remembering and honoring Margaret's rich and fulfilling life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to The Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH who took such great care of her in her final days.
