Obituary


Holden: Marguerite A. “Peggy” Carlson, 92, was laid to rest at Worcester County Memorial Park on December 9th 2023. Peggy was born December 30th 1930 in Cambridge, Massachusetts to Samuel and Hazel J. (Matheson) MacKenzie, both of whom emigrated from Prince Edward Island, Canada. With family at her side, Peggy died peacefully at her home in Holden, Massachusetts, on December 5th 2023.

Marguerite was the wife of Leonard H. “Lennie” Carlson who passed away in 2008. She leaves her son Christopher S. Carlson, daughter-in-law Ann E. (Moseley) Carlson of Upper Arlington, Ohio; her sons Kevin L. Carlson of Boston and Gregory A. Carlson of Old Greenwich, Connecticut; her daughter Julieanne Carlson-Marshall, son-in-law Wesley A. Marshall of Worcester, Massachusetts. She also leaves grandson C. Bradley Carlson, his wife: Megan C. (Nosal) Carlson, and great-grandchild Nicklaus A. Carlson of Columbus, Ohio, and grandsons Wesley B. “Brody” Marshall and Samuel B. Marshall of Worcester, Massachusetts.

Peggy was predeceased by grandchildren Amanda MacKenzie Carlson and Nicholas Andrew Carlson of Upper Arlington, Ohio. Peggy’s brother, John MacKenzie of Wakefield, Massachusetts, also predeceased her.

Peggy graduated from Medford High School in 1947. She worked as a bank teller in Boston and Worcester before and after raising her family. The highlight of her career was as the function manager of Holden Hills Country Club.

Peggy enjoyed sewing, fashion, cooking comfort food, telling jokes, retail therapy, bargain hunting, listening to, and sometimes singing, Country and Western music with her husband, and always doting on her children and grandchildren.

In her memory, contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice or carrying out an act of kindness.
