Hopeton Seymour Uter, age 71, passed away on December 9, 2023, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was happily married to Beryl Uter for almost 30 years at the time of his death.
He was born on February 14, 1952, in Craighead, Manchester, Jamaica to Hurschell and Olive Uter. He was the fourth of fifteen children and is remembered by his siblings as a fierce protector and a generous and loyal friend.
Hopeton was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle and is survived by his wife Beryl Uter; his beloved children Othneil Uter, Melika Uter, and Gary Uter; his grandchildren Nathanael Uter and Ramara Uter; and a host of other family and friends.
In his neverending desire to provide the best life for his family, he left Jamaica at age forty-two and migrated to the United States where they would later join him. After arriving in the United States he worked tirelessly to support his family, who remain forever grateful for his dedication and sacrifice.
He was a man of few words but great presence and his curiosity of the world around him was inspiring. A life long learner, he was an avid student of theology and history. In his free time he enjoyed reading the Bible, urban farming, and cricket. Always strong-willed, he served as a source of motivation and strength for everyone around him.
Hopeton was an incredible man whose light will forever be felt by his family and whose passing will leave an unfillable gap in the hearts of his loved ones. His strength, support, and love will be forever ingrained in all the lives he has touched.
He was predeceased by his dear siblings Dorret, Gloria, George, Patrick, Beverly, Arlene, Adassa, and his parents Hurschell and Olive Uter.
Funeral Services will be held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church located at 108 Seaver Street in Boston at 10AM on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. Burial to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
