Obituary

HOLYOKE – Normand J. Larochelle, 90, of Holyoke and a longtime resident of Lancashire Road in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Monday, December 11, 2023. He passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Saint Lazare de Bellechasse, Province of Quebec, Canada on October 14, 1933, a beloved son of the late Henri and Marie Jeanne (Godbout) Larochelle. He was raised in Canada and settled in Springfield in 1955 where he lived for most of his life. He was the Owner and General Contractor of the Normand Larochelle Roofing and Siding Company in Springfield and retired in 1995. Normand was a member of the Knights of Columbus Elder Council No. 69 in Chicopee and a former member of the Home Builders Association. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. Not only was he a respected contractor, he always made time to spend with his family and many friends. Normand, A.K.A, “The Captain” to many friends, enjoyed fishing at the Quabin Resevoir and at Lake Ontario. Taking his three boys fishing and hunting was one of his favorite past times. Normand carried this tradition on with his grandchildren that he so dearly loved. The outdoors was a very special place for him. Normand was a gentle man that showed compassion and love for everyone. The impact he has made on others will always stay imbedded in the hearts of many. He leaves his beloved wife and soulmate, Simone (Boutin) Larochelle. They were married on October 18, 1969 at the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 54 years of happiness together. He also leaves his three loving and devoted sons, David N. Larochelle and his partner, Stacey Dickinson, of Springfield, Danny S. Larochelle and his wife, Colleen Miller Larochelle, of South Hadley, and Jason J. Larochelle and his wife, Lynn Bujnevicie Larochelle, of Longmeadow; his four cherished grandchildren, Miller, Jack, Livia, and Ashton; his thirteen siblings, three of whom are predeceased; his in-laws; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members in the United States and Canada. His family will receive friends on Friday, January 5, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. His Funeral will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 beginning at the funeral home at 8:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. His Burial will follow the Mass at Saint Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
