Richard Scheib, Sr. (Dick) peacefully passed away on December 16th, 2023 following a long-term illness. He passed away with his loved ones by his side. Dick and Kathy were married in Tamaqua, PA on October 29, 1966.
Richard graduated from Tamaqua High School in 1967 and received an MBA from Northeastern University in 1984. Following high school, he spent six years in the Navy, including tours in Vietnam and Korea on the USS Arlington AGMR-2 (Communication Ship) with the last year in the Naval Reserve in Hazelton, PA. Following active duty he worked at Bethlehem Steel in the machine shop, GATX working on lathe, milling machines, and boring machines. While at GATX he also attended Ryder Technical Institute for electronics. This opened a job for him and 14 others at Digital Equipment Corp in Maynard, MA. He worked at Digital moving to various positions and locations for the next 30 years. After Digital he went to Celox Networks (A Startup Company). After Celox he worked at IDEXX Laboratories in Maine for the last 15 years before retiring.
He was a life member in the Knights of Columbus Council 3023 3rd and 4th degrees at Saint Thomas Aquinas in Derry. He enjoyed working with the Knights in various activities until he was not physically capable due to illness. He created lifelong friendships through the church, all whom he deeply cherished. In his leisure time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing (fresh and salt water) with his son, brother-in-law Dennis and friends. This generated many wonderful memories including times spent overnight in some deep woods. Other hobbies included reloading rifle, pistol and shotgun shells and shooting at Pelham Fish and Game. When able, he built a fully functional woodworking facility and time spent buying, repairing, selling, and upgrading his equipment.
While always a busy man, Richard’s priority was always family. He enjoyed watching his family expand through the years, from he and Kathy to their three children, to their families, and a great grandchild. All starting with the love from his big heart. It is that warm heart, generous nature, and joyous smile that we will fondly remember and deeply miss.
