Lawrence (Larry) Patrick Maher of Peabody, formerly a long-time resident of Arlington and Woburn, passed away on December 13, 2023 at the age of 92. Born July 31, 1931 in Medford MA, Larry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Larry was a loving husband to his late wife Dorothy (MacPhee) Maher and devoted father to his children Diane Pessinis and her husband Stephen of Atkinson NH, Dave Maher of Derry NH, Joanne D'Alleva and her late husband Luigi of Wakefield, MA, and John Maher and his wife Ellen of Ipswich, MA. He was also survived by nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Larry was the brother of Patricia (Maher) Sabbey of Boston and the late Peg (Maher) Deering, Bob, Bill and Gerry Maher.
Larry attended St. Clements High School in Somerville, MA before receiving his accounting degree from Boston College. He was an accomplished CPA, serving as Controller for Ionics, Inc. in Watertown, MA for 33 years. Larry had a strong work ethic which he passed down to his children---even once walking to work during a blizzard!
Larry had many interests which brought him great joy. He loved lake life at his NH cottage, golfing, waterskiing, snow skiing, bowling, woodworking and, most of all, traveling. He and his wife Dotty made yearly trips to the Caribbean where they reveled in snorkeling and scuba diving. They also enjoyed numerous camping trips to Canada and all but two States---visiting many family members and friends along the way. Larry was known for his kind and caring nature. He was also deeply religious and grounded in faith, which served him well throughout his life. In true gentlemanly fashion, Larry kept his charm and humor right to the end.
