John Richard Modica, 69, of Walpole, MA, formerly of Medway, MA passed away December 13, 2023, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, following a long battle with cancer.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, July 30, 1954, the son of the late Joseph M. and Evelyn (Calamia) Modica, John was raised in Medway and lived there for many years. John also lived in Hudson, MA for several years, in St. Petersburg, FL, for six years and finally had been a resident of Walpole, MA for the past five years.
John was a graduate of Medway High School where he was a member of the math league and chess teams.
A heavy equipment operator and union member most of his life, John drove for Tresca Brothers, Rosenfeld Concrete and Boston Sand and Gravel until he finally retired in 2023.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to John. He loved riding his Harley, shooting pool and driving his Corvette. In addition, he enjoyed watching sports and being at family gatherings, but most of all he enjoyed spending quality time with his beautiful daughter, Samantha.
John is survived by his daughter, Samantha Modica of Leominster, MA and the mother of his daughter and dearest friend Kathy Donovan also of Leominster. He is also survived by his siblings, Barbara Modica Moore of West Wareham, MA, Richard Modica and his wife Anne of Canton MA, Karen Phipps and her husband William of Holliston, MA, William Modica and his wife Lori of Foster, RI, Kim Salem and her husband Martin of Stoughton, MA, Robert Modica and his wife Beth of Framingham, MA, and Joanne Modica of North Kingstown, RI
He is also survived by his 10 Nieces and Nephews and one Great Niece.
His funeral mass will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023, at St Joseph Church, 151 Village Street, Medway, MA at 11:00am, followed by a procession to Saint Joseph Cemetery, Medway, MA.
