Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Kay (Anezakis) Kazalis, 83, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. She passed into Eternal Life at her daughter’s home in West Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Laki, Xania, Crete, Greece on July 27, 1940, a beloved daughter of the late Iakovos and Evangelia (Theodorakis) Anezakis. She was raised in Crete and immigrated to Worcester in 1963 before moving to Springfield in 1968. She was a longtime co-owner of the former Blue Eagle Restaurant in Springfield and later owned and operated the Krete Restaurant in Hadley. She was a member of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield where she also was a member of the Ladies Cretan Club and the Over 60 Club of the Cathedral. She enjoyed reading the Bible on a daily basis and learning about her Greek Orthodox faith. Her greatest joy was cooking Greek food and making Greek pastries for her family and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, George N. Kazalis who was Called Home on January 8, 1977. She leaves her two loving children, Michael G. Kazalis and his wife, Inna, of Chicopee and Mary Perakis and her husband, Steven, of West Springfield; her five cherished grandchildren, Michael A. Kazalis, Jr., Christina M. Kazalis, Speros S. Perakis, Antonia Kay Perakis and Kayla G. Kazalis; her dear brother, Antonios Anezakis and his wife, Koula, of Athens, Greece; her two dear sisters in law, Eleni Anezakis of Crete and Chrisanthi Kazalis of Worcester; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends in the United States and Greece. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her two dear brothers, Stelios Anezakis and Manoli Anezakis and his wife, Evangelia; her dear sister, Eleftheria Manolarakis and her husband, Stylianos; and her dear nephew, Nikolaos Manolarakis. Kay will Lie in Repose on Monday, December 18, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2320 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107. Her Burial will follow the Funeral Service at Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street, Springfield, MA 01109. Her funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177) 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107.
