Joseph “Joe” George Nahas passed away peacefully surrounded by all his loved ones on December 8, 2023. Joe was born on March 16, 1929 to Rev. George and Elizabeth Nahas. He was the remaining and youngest of nine children; Rev. Herbert, Albert, Christopher, Edward, Alice, Mary, Elizabeth and Lily. Joe touched the hearts of so many people. To know him was to love him. He was quick with a joke and believed humor is life’s greatest medicine. He was an inspiring man very active and witty even into his nineties. He was an absolute genius and had a passion for learning especially history.
Joe grew up in a religious household. He had many wonderful memories of his childhood and loved his family. After high school he proudly served his country in the Korean War as Staff Sergeant. His mission was to diffuse enemy mines with only his hands and eyes as a guide. He received three medals for heroic acts performed. He always said “trust your instincts”. After the army he fell in love and married the love of his life Marie O’Connor Herro Nahas who passed away seventeen years ago. They shared a love like no other; fifty years of marriage before she passed. They had two sons and three daughters.
Joe was a professional HVAC chief engineer. He worked on many interesting projects in a variety of states and countries. Joe was a hardworking man who was so knowledgeable in his field. He was known to be one of the best in his occupation. No problem was unsolvable for him. He was an amazing man, wonderful father, father-in-law, grandfather and great grandfather. He always had a sweet smile on his face and a friendly personality. He enjoyed watching baseball. He was a pitcher when he was younger. The thing he enjoyed most of all was spending time with his family. He gave his family so many cherished memories. His family was everything to him and he always told everyone how blessed and thankful he was for his family. He was so loved by his family in return. His belief was to “enjoy life and to give it your all” and that’s what he did. Joe lived a beautiful life and will be dearly missed.
Joe is survived by his children Mary Nahas Coffey (Jim), Joseph Nahas Jr. (Edgy) Jane Nahas, Maureen Nahas Gatto (Tony). The youngest son Daniel Nahas passed a year after his mother Marie Nahas. Joe was a loving grandfather to Louis Nahas (Ryan), Lauren Coffey Bonilla (LJ), Anthony “AJ” Gatto and Heather Gatto. He was proud he became a great grandfather to Lauren & LJ Bonilla’s adorable children Layla and Jayden.
