Obituary

Carole M. (Powers) Scalli, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at her home in Charlestown. She was 84 years of age.

Carole was born in Charlestown on September 12, 1939, a daughter of the late Francis E. Powers and Mary (Ahern) Powers. She was raised in Charlestown, where she became an integral part of the community. Carole loved giving back by working with Townie Santa and Charlestown Working Theater as well as by becoming a foster parent. She welcomed so many children through the years and made every child that arrived at her door feel safe and comfortable. She was passionate about dancing, performing, and ice skating. Combining her love of serving the community and performing led her to join the Greater Boston Area for Retarded Citizens (G.B.A.R.C.) association where she enjoyed dancing and producing many shows throughout the years with great friends and “Just a Little Love.” Carole worked at the New England Telephone Company and the City of Boston for many years. When she wasn’t working she was enjoying her time as a mother of seven children. She also was Mamé to 16 grandchildren and then became G.G. (gorgeous grandmother) to her 17 great grandchildren. Carole loved spending time with her family and enjoyed life both in Charlestown and on the coast of Maine, with her companion in life, Joe. Carole was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and friend to so many. She touched so many lives and will be greatly missed.

Carole is the beloved wife of the late retired Boston Firefighter V. Robert “Bob” Scalli. She is the devoted mother of Robert S. “Bobby” Scalli, Elizabeth “Beth” Rooney and her husband Gerry Rooney, Michelle MacIntosh and her husband Melrose Fire Department Lieutenant Kenny MacIntosh, Stephen V. Scalli and his wife Kristi Scalli, Monique Pare, David G. Scalli and his wife Erin Scalli and Julie Scalli. She is the loving Mame to Jake, Jacquelyn, Sarah, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Rachel, Hannah, Gerard Jr., Kenneth, Melrose Police Sergeant Nikolaus, Caroline, S/Sergeant Stephen U.S. Army, Jack, Shay, Charlotte, Veronica and “G.G.” to Logan, Luca, Anthony, Gregory, Caroline, William, Fallon, Finn, Richard, Charlie, Ryan, Trevor, Rylee, Taylor, Ronan, Patrick and Sean. She is the dear companion of Joseph Baudanza. She is the beloved sister of Judy Evers, David Powers, Virginia Powers, Collette Melanson and the late Francis E. Powers Jr. and the late retired Boston Firefighter Richard Powers. She is also survived by her many loving nieces and nephews.
