Daniel Kevin Hines of West Roxbury, MA passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the age of 85.
Dan is survived by his wife of 63 years, Linda (Rodenhiser) Hines. He leaves three children, Daniel D. of West Roxbury, MA, Brian C. (wife Joan Ryan) of West Roxbury, MA and Pamela Hines Kattany (husband Mark Stygles) of Natick, MA.
Dan had seven grandchildren: Rachel Hines (fiancée Nicholas DiPena), Ian Hines, Kevin Hines, Mary Hines Corish (husband Thomas Corish), Ariana Kattany, Jesse Kattany and Lynda Kattany and one great-grandchild, Nicholas DiPena, Jr.
Born in Jamaica Plain on Sept. 11, 1938, to the late Mary (Gavin) Hines and the late John Hines, Dan was the ninth of ten siblings. He is survived by his older brother Fran of Canton, MA and his younger sister Nancy of Falmouth, MA. Dan is pre-deceased by seven of his nine brothers and sisters: Edward, Mary, Joseph, James, Jack, Margaret and Thomas.
Dan served in the US Navy after high school, and after service began his studies at Northeastern University where he obtained his degree in accounting and business administration. Dan worked for the federal government as the Financial Director of the Health and Human Services Department of New England until his retirement in 1995.
Dan loved watching sports with his brother Fran, listening to classical music on Sunday mornings, planning family reunions and giving excellent advice. Dan and Linda loved adventure and traveled extensively throughout Europe, North Africa, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Alaska and many other US states. There was also the annual Cape Cod vacation with the grandchildren.
