In Boston, December 9, 2023 Barbara Ann George wife of John George died at St Elizabeth’s Hospital with her family by her side at the age of 88. Born in Taunton, Barbara was the daughter of the late Gregorio and Maria (Fernandes) Rocha. She was a graduate of Taunton High School class of 1954. Barbara was a retired Teachers Aid for Elizabeth Pole Elementary School teaching bilingual Portuguese students english retiring in 1999. After retirement she went on to help her husband John in the family business Weir Fruit & Liquors in Taunton. Barbara was on the reunion committee for Taunton High School and the Scholarship committee. She was a former CCD teacher for St Anthony’s Church, first women’s club president at the PACC. Barbara’s passion was singing, she sang in St Anthony’s Church and for and local bands in Taunton. She loved spending time with her family and traveling to Aruba with them every year. Barbara was the loving mother of Jacquelyn George of Taunton and Thomas George and his wife Kristin of Berkley. Grandma of Derek George and his wife Veronika of Taunton. Great grandma of Derek Jr., Victoria and Drae George all of Taunton. Sister of the late Maria Andrade, Laurinda Neugeboren, Alveda Rocha, Dr. Gregory Rocha, Hilda Ribeiro and her surviving husband John of Norton and Leonard Rocha. Aunt of several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home 70 Washington Street in Taunton on Thursday, December 14th at 9 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St Anthony’s Church in Taunton at 10 AM. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7 PM. Interment Mayflower Hill Cemetery in Taunton.
