Arthur Pierre Poussard passed away on December 4, 2023, following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was surrounded by family at Colonial Poplin in Fremont, NH where he was a resident.
He was born in Salem, Massachusetts to Elizabeth (Bouchard) Poussard and Arthur Poussard. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Salem where he played football and basketball and met his future and loving wife, Irene L’Heureux. Arthur graduated in 1960 from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. Arthur was the beloved pharmacist at Poussard’s Pharmacy on Lafayette Street in Salem for over 30 years. He was an extremely conscientious and caring pharmacist who often opened his store, off hours, for people in need. Arthur continued as a Pharmacist at CVS and retired in 2004.
Arthur had many interests and hobbies including his passions for cooking, gardening, painting, and boating. He was always trying new and unique dishes for the family and guests. His paintings and his lush and colorful flower and vegetable gardens made the home on Jefferson Ave a very loving and special place for the family. He always referred to his garden as “a show” in peak bloom. Arthur led family and friends on many boating and flounder fishing and lobster trapping adventures in Salem Harbor that are still talked about at family events. He was a member of the Richelieu Club in Salem– a French-Canadian cultural and charitable organization.
Arthur was a devoted and loving husband, father, son, brother and neighbor who gave so much of himself to so many and was always there for his family. He is survived by his loving wife Irene and his five children, Ronald Poussard and wife Ellen, Jacqueline Jean and her husband Donald, Leonard Poussard and his partner Kyle Port, Roger Poussard and his wife Tara, and Edward Poussard and his wife Amy.
