Obituary

WORCESTER___Normand J. Lamoureux, 86, died on Wednesday, Dec. 6th, after a courageous and graceful battle with cancer. In his passing as in his life, he was surrounded by the love of his family members.

Born in 1937 in Lowell, Norm was a graduate of Boston College, and earned his Ph.D. in French from Indiana University. He spent the next four decades as a professor of French at Holy Cross College, before retiring to Ft. Lauderdale, ultimately returning to Worcester to be closer to his family. While at Holy Cross, he also co-authored a series of textbooks called Ensemble which were the leading textbooks in the country.

Norm’s north stars were his faith and his family, and the two were inextricably intertwined. A man of deep faith, he was a Leader of Song, a Lector, and a Religious Educator at Christ the King Church for more than 40 years, and continued to serve as a Lector for the years he lived in Ft. Lauderdale. His faith was his bedrock, guiding him to his residence at Notre Dame du Lac in Worcester, where he passed.

Norm was lucky enough to be able to spend his entire adult life with the love of his life, Priscilla, also from Lowell. Their 65 year marriage was a love story that inspired all who knew them. Their devotion to each other through thick and thin never wavered, and he died peacefully in her arms.

Besides his loving wife, Priscilla, Norm leaves four children: Celeste Mahaney, of Charlton, and her husband, Joe; Suzanne Lamoureux, of Worcester, and her partner, Dana Pace; Robert Lamoureux, of Niskayuna, NY, and his wife, Stephanie; and Danielle Wearing, of New Canaan, CT, and her husband Chris; as well as thirteen grandchildren—Tom, Kate, Kelsey, Amanda, Keyonzia, Hannah, Christina, Adriana, Adam, Nicole, Christopher, Ian, and Grace—and two great-grandchildren, Ciaran and Mia. He is also survived by a brother, Roger Lamoureux and his wife Marilyn, three sisters, Doris Farrell and her husband Tom, Priscille Bergeron and her husband, Richard and Jeannine Sicard and nieces and nephews. He rejoins his parents, Leon and Cecile Lamoureux of Lowell, and his parents-in-law, Wilfrid and Sybille Deschenes, already in heaven before him.

The family is eternally grateful to the wonderful staff at Notre Dame du Lac for their spiritual support and countless kindnesses during Norm’s final days; to the VNACare Hospice team for their expert and loving care for Norm and his family; and most especially to Norm’s home health aide, Janet, whose title of aide is a poor summary of the extraordinary daily assistance and loving care she provided to both Norm and Priscilla throughout his illness.

Norm was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, teacher, and friend. Those who knew him as Norm, Dad, or Pepere have a hole in our lives that can never be filled. We take comfort from knowing that we will reunite with him one day in heaven.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, December 12th, from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m., at Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street in Worcester, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Dirsa – Morin Funeral Home, 298 Grafton Street, has care of the funeral arrangements.
