James David Handley, Sr., 86, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, December 7, 2023, at his residence.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Mr. Handley was born October 9, 1937, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late David Preston & Nancy Ann Alewine Handley. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was a cashier at Ronnie’s Package Store and worked for NAPA Auto Parts. Mr. Handley loved playing the bass guitar, and played with numerous famous people over the years including Willie Nelson and Charlie Pride to name a few. He was also a member of the Laymon Quartet, and the Full House Band. Mr. Handley also enjoyed fishing, and was a member of CFI.
He is survived by his children: David Handley of Fitzgerald, Andy Handley & Donna of Fitzgerald, Shane Handley & Mandy of Rebecca and Mitzie Merritt of Irwinville; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Frances Shaddix & Chip and a brother, Tony Handley.
Paulk Funeral Home, Fitzgerald, is in charge of arrangements.
