Obituary

CHICOPEE – Gertrude A. (Stuiber) Durant, 96, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, December 5, 2023. She passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Neuern, Czecholslovakia on July 31, 1927, a beloved daughter of the late Friedrich and Emilie (Bayer) Stuiber. She was raised and educated in Germany and had immigrated to Holyoke in 1946 before moving to Chicopee in 1955. She was employed as an assistant cook with the Chicopee School Department. She was a communicant of the former Saint Patrick Church and currently was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church, both in Chicopee. She was a member of the Springfield Turnverein Club. During her leisure time, she enjoyed spending time with her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Leroy J. Durant who was Called Home on May 30, 2000. She leaves her two loving children, Robert L. Durant of Chicopee and Heidi D. Parker and her husband, Wayne, of West Springfield; her cherished granddaughter, Kara E. Barnes-Parker of Westfield; her dear sister, Emmie Stuiber of Nuremberg, Germany; her dear brother, Hans Stuiber and his wife, Petra, of Regenstauf, Germany; her dear sister in law, Hilda Stuiber of Nuremberg, Germany; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her dear sister, Anschie Dirschl; and her dear brother, Fritz Stuiber. Her visiting hours, funeral services and burial will be private. Her funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
