James A. Hersey, Jr., 54

Dateline: Norton, MA

James A. Hersey, Jr., age 54, of Norton, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, December 5, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Elaine M. (King) Hersey.

Born in Boston, MA on September 16, 1969, he was a loving son of Jean (Barnes) Hersey of Norton and the late James A. Hersey, Sr.

Jim grew up in South Boston and was a 1988 graduate of South Boston High School. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army National Guard and was honorably discharged with the rank of SPC (E-1). He was a member of the AMVETS and a former member of the James J. Rice VFW Post #28 in Dorchester.

Prior to retiring, Jim worked for twenty years as a plumber. He loved spending time with his adoring family, which included traveling, and was an avid New England sports fan. He was an active member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Mansfield Lodge of Elks #2633 and served as a State Trustee. For many years, he faithfully volunteered his assistance at Saint Mary’s Bingo in Norton on Friday evenings.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his devoted children: James T Finn-Hersey of Brookline, Robert J. Hersey of Norton, Michael P. Hersey and his girlfriend Kaleigh Schleicher of Norton and Madison M. Hersey of Norton. He is also survived by his loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, December 10th from 3:00-7:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.

His funeral service will be held on Monday, December 11th at 10:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton.
