Henry Wade Evans, 92, of Sarasota, FL and Mystic, passed away peacefully at his summer home in Groton Long Point. Mr. Evans was born in Westfield, NJ on July 29, 1913 the son of Henry and Emeline (Langworthy) Evans.
He was the husband of the late Charlotte B. Evans whom he married on June 15, 1946 in Chatham, NJ. While residing in Warren, NJ, Mr. Evans was active in local politics and served as the Mayor for several terms.
Mr. Evans started his career as a residential building contractor in New Jersey. Later in life he worked in Real Estate. He tried retirement for a short time and decided it was not for him. He then picked up hi hammer and bought and renovated two homes and a commercial building in downtown Mystic.
He was a member of the Mystic Congregational Church and the Stonington Country Club. He was an avid tennis and golf player and had a strong interest in horses.
Mr. Evans is survived by two sons and a daughter; John H. Evans, wife Peggy, and his grandsons Scott and Timothy of Harrisville, NH; G. Douglas Evans and partner Donald Eunson of Jamaica Plain, MA; Emeline “Missy” Evans of Mystic, CT.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at the Mystic Congregational Church on Friday, July 7th, at 11am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. His family will gather privately for burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Rangeley, Maine.
