Obituary

'Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, and Aunt'

Maria Natal (Toledo Ormonde) Valadao, 85 of Lowell, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023 in Palm Coast, Florida after a lengthy illness. She was the surviving spouse of the late Jose M. Valadao, with whom she enjoyed 61 years of marriage before his passing in 2016.

She was born on December 7, 1937 in Terciera, Azores, Portugal and was a daughter of the late Joao Homen Ormonde and the late Isabel Da Conceisao Toledo. She was raised in Lajes, Terciera, where she attended the area schools.

On July 9, 1969 she relocated to the United States, settling on Concord Street in Lowell. She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church. Maria was a seamstress for a long time and also worked as a solderer for Merrimack Magnetics, Wang Labs, and Accutronics for many years until her well-deserved retirement.

She took pleasure in sewing and cooking for family and friends, as well as tending to her flower gardens. Most importantly, she held dear the time spent with her family, creating cherished memories together. She enjoyed traveling with her husband back to their home in Terciera.

Maria is survived by her two children, Delio Valadao and his wife, Leonor of Merrimack, NH, and Eulalia Raposo and her husband, Helder of Palm Coast, FL; her six grandchildren Laulita Borges and her partner, Marta Borges of Nashua, Valerio Ormonde and his wife, Kristen of Chelmsford, Erica Cruz and her husband, Jonathan of Londonderry, NH, Natasha Rosario of Lowell, Scarlet Desaavedra of Lowell, and Desirée Melo and her husband, Luis of Manchester; and her two step grandchildren, Kimberly Raposo of Haverhill, and Helder Raposo Jr. of Wakefield.

She is also survived by her 9 great grandchildren, Adrian, Stella and Savian Cruz, Gabriella and Natalia Rosario, Dean and Nico Ormonde, Alexy and Jade Melo; her step great grandson, John Luis Cruz; her sister, Maria De Conceisao Toledo Pires of Arcata, CA; a sister in law, Maria Natal Meneses of Lowell; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by her sister, Maria Norbeta Borba; her mother and father in law Jose and Maria Valadao; and her brothers in law, Lourenco Valadao, Francisco Meneses, Januario Pires.

On Saturday, December 9, 2023 all are welcome to attend her calling hours from 9-11 a.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816. Her funeral mass will be offered at 12 Noon at St. Anthony Church, 893 Central Street, Lowell. Burial at Lowell Cemetery on Knapp Ave. in Lowell.
