Obituary


Clare Marie (Mealey) Flynn, 92, of Franklin passed away on December 2, 2023 at Alliance Health at Maples in Wrentham following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late James P. Flynn, Jr. who passed in 1987.

Born in East Boston on August 13, 1931, Clare was the daughter of the late Francis G. and Mary E. (Sweeney) Mealey. She was raised in East Boston and had lived in Franklin for the past 66 years.

Clare was a graduate of Bryant & Stratton Business School.

Prior to retirement, Clare was the Assistant Treasurer at the Wrentham Developmental Center. She had previously worked for Boston Edison, where she met her late husband, and for the Rustcraft Company in Dedham.

In years past, Clare enjoyed bowling, line dancing, and dinner dances. She continued to be an active participant in daily activities at the Franklin Senior Center, where she enjoyed spending time with her friends.

Clare was the originator of the Franklin Widows Club and was a faithful communicant of St. Mary’s Church.

Clare was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending Sunday afternoons together. She always had games in tow; among her favorites were Michigan Rummy and Anagrams. She loved her chocolate, potato chips, and was the proud baker of her famous Nana Cookies.

She is survived by her children, James F. Flynn and his wife Claire of Bluffton, South Carolina and Suzanne Coletta and her husband Steven of Mansfield.

She was the sister of the late Mary Mundy, Helen Powell, and Margaret Mundy.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Jenny Kelly and her husband, Matt, Greg Coletta and his wife, Rebecca, Brian Flynn and his fiancée, Louisa, and Kimberly Canavan.

She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Abby & Dan Kelly, Eva Flynn, Brody & Cullen Canavan, and Madeleine & Charlotte Coletta.

Clare was also blessed to have wonderful nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friendships.

Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 7 at St. Mary’s Church, Franklin at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, December 6 in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin from 4-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Franklin Senior Center, 10 Daniel McCahill Street, Franklin, MA 02038.
