Obituary

Linda C. Pope, 72, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.

Graveside services will be held 11 AM, Monday, December 4, 2023, at Ocilla Cemetery, Ocilla, with the Rev. Dr. Brent Duncan officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Ms. Pope was born August 24, 1951, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late W.T. & Mary Riddle Pope. She attended ABAC working towards her nursing degree. She was a longtime employee of Dorminy Medical Center where she was affectionately called “Lab Linda”. She worked faithfully in almost every department in her 45-year career and retired as secretary of the lab and a phlebotomist. She was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. Ms. Pope was very family oriented and was a strong and devoted mother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children: Ronald E. Smith, Jr. & Lori of Nashville, Mandy Michelle Bookout & Michael of Derby, Kansas, Michael Kevin Smith, Sr. of Fitzgerald, and Stephanie Diane Smith & Robert Clark of Ocilla; grandchildren: Jordan & Alissa Fletcher, Ryan & Mariah Fletcher, Kevin Smith, Jr., Brandon Bookout, Taylor Stephenson, Sydnee Fletcher, Chloe Smith, and Holly Bookout; a great-grandson: Hudson Fletcher; and siblings: Nathan Pope & Judy of Warner Robins, Kelly Pope & JoAnn of Warner Robins, Jeanette Pope of Fitzgerald, Terry Pope, Sr. of Fitzgerald, and Marty “Lamar” Pope & Cindy of Fitzgerald; and a sister-in-law, Della Pope of Warner Robins. Many nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Gabriel Drake Yancey; two sisters, infant Rosemary Pope and Darlene Pope During; and two brothers: Tommy Pope and Allen “Buzz” Pope, Sr.
