Wilma Lou (Hyden) Martin
1927 - 2023
Wilma Lou Martin, age 95, of Prosser, WA, went to be with her Heavenly Father on November 24, 2023. She was born on December 15, 1927, in Springfield, South Dakota to Wilmer and Emma Hyden. She married Ira W. (Bill) Martin on October 24, 1947 and moved to Cathlamet WA where Bill had family. They moved to Prosser in 1953 and eventually settled on Ellen Avenue.
Wilma was a beloved homemaker, school bus driver, and school cafeteria worker. She dedicated her life to caring for her family and creating a warm and loving home. Wilma and Bill hosted many social events in their back yard for the Grange and the Church but especially enjoyed the annual Martin Family reunions that occurred during the Prosser Balloon Rallies. Wilma was known for her nurturing spirit and her delicious homemade meals.
In her free time, Wilma enjoyed pursuing her hobbies of gardening (growing the best tomatoes around), needlework, crochet, and knitting. She found great joy in creating beautiful and intricate pieces with her skilled hands. She loved all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took delight when they were able to visit and enjoyed spoiling them.
She was a longtime member of the Prosser Presbyterian Church, a member of Buena Vista Grange, and Lower Valley Christian Women’s Connection.
Wilma is survived by her sons, George [Marilee] Martin (Port Townsend, WA) and John [Victoria] Martin (Olympia, WA), her daughter, Freda [Richard] Boll (Prosser, WA), 8 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira (Bill) W. Martin, her daughter, Emma Fortier, and her parents, Wilmer and Emma Hyden.
Wilma's life will be celebrated with a service at the Covenant Presbyterian Church of Prosser, located at 912 Yakima Ave, Prosser, WA 99350, on December 9th at 2 pm. Prior to the service, she will be laid to rest at the Prosser Cemetery in a Family Ceremony..
