Paul Francis Fortier, with one hand held by his niece Linda, the other hand held by Jesus, and with family close by, decided to go to be with God on November 24, 2023. His body failed him, but his mind and soul were strong.
Born in Brockton on December 30, 1939 to Joseph and Carmella (Cicoro) Fortier, Paul was brother to Barbara (Richard) Tirrell, Marguerite (Joseph) Paccia, Virginia (Raymond) Kendall and half siblings Yvette Bernie, Zita Kondrath, and Phillip Fortier. He had many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Paul graduated from Brockton High School, served in the US Army post World War II, and went to work with Zayre’s Department Stores.
Paul was a devout Catholic, strong in his faith throughout his life. He was an altar boy at St. Edward’s Church in Brockton and, later in life, a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes parish in Carver.
Paul was devoted to his family and extended family and expressed how much he loved them. He took pride in researching his family ancestry and sharing it with all. Known to all nieces, nephews and beyond as Uncle Paul, he was the publisher of the anxiously anticipated yearly family birthday calendar at Christmas time.
Paul loved driving his BMW all over the place and sharing his unique sense of humor with all who would listen. He was a loyal Patriots fan and really enjoyed the weekly “tailgate,” games and good food at the Tirrells.
He will be missed by all who loved him!
Visitation will be held at the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123) Brockton on Thursday December 14, 2023, from 5-7pm. The procession will gather at the funeral home on Friday, December 15, at 9:30 a.m. for a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Edith Stein Church in Brockton. Burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s name may be made to a charity of your choice.
