Obituary

While statistically winning the lottery three times in one family is highly unlikely, Nathan Becker, Benjamin Becker, and Elyse Schuerman beat the odds when they were born to Judith T Becker (Nee Siegel).

Judy was born in Louisville, KY on December 15, 1948, to Jean Rae and Harold Siegel.

Judy met her husband, Joseph Becker, in 1968 when he was set up with her cousin, Susan, on a double date. Luckily for Joe, things didn’t work out with Susan or Judy’s boyfriend at the time and the rest is history. They shared many adventures over the years including living a year in Thailand, moves from Kentucky to Ohio to Florida, business ups and downs, four different dogs, raising children and helping raise grandchildren, travels abroad and to their favorite destination, Maine.

Judy was a relentlessly positive force that could love and nurture any living thing. She knew about every bird and plant that grew from Florida to Maine. She cared for her garden, animals, and her children with equal excellence. She cared for various friends and family members over her lifetime including her mother-in-law, Gloria, even while Judy was battling her own illness. She always wanted to have a home that was well maintained and full of life and loved-ones (and strangers alike). She cultivated it and it grew. Her only vice was buying a weekly lottery ticket. She won $5,000 once, making her the fourth person in the Becker household to win a lottery.

Judy was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Becker of fifty-four years. She is survived by her brother Richard (wife Mindy); her children, Elyse (husband Don), Nathan, and Benjamin; and her grandchildren Devin, Emma, Greta, and Milo.

A memorial will take place in her home in Mims, FL on January 13th. Please contact the family for further details. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Audubon Society in Judy’s name.
