Obituary

Glynn T. Shafer Jr 56, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on November 28, 2023 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital New London CT.. Glynn was born on May 1, 1967 to Barbara O’Brien and Glynn T. Shafer.

Glynn attended North Stonington Schools and graduating from Wheeler High School in 1986. Glynn followed graduating with joining the United States Army and was stationed for 3 years in Germany.

Glynn enjoyed life to the fullest. Always had a smile and with those beautiful blue eyes you would just melt. He loved his NY Giant, NY Yankees and had a great love for Dale Earnhardt. He also loved animals especially his dogs. Glynn loved to garden and was so proud at Christmas time to give you a bag of crop all canned. His friends meant so much to him and gave him great joy in his life. He couldn’t wait to go to the Shunock River Brewery to have a few and this was his last outing. He enjoyed meeting his friends at Mystic Pizza II and his Breakfast crew at Amanda’s.

Glynn leaves his mother Barbara O’Brien from North Stonington, father Glynn T. Shafer from Joplin MO, his lifelong partner Rachel Shafer from North Stonington, sister Glenda Spencer (Roger) from Niantic, sister Susan Pickens (Dave)from Windermere FL, two step-brothers Keith and Thomas O’Brien, his nieces Kathryn Pickens, Janice Miner, Jennifer Preston (Duke), nephew Justin Miner, great nieces Jenna Melzer and Jocelyn Tuttle and two great great nieces Mila and Hazel Stammel all from North Stonington. He is predeceased by his brother Todd Shafer and stepfather Thomas O'Brien. Glynn had many other relatives and friends. He was loved by all and will be missed.

I want to thank the nursing staff at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital on floor 4.2 in New London CT. You were all the best and gave my brother the utmost best care and you were so patient with our family. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

There will be a service with Full Military Honors for Glynn at Second Baptist Church, 12 Stillman Road North Stonington at 11am on December 9, 2023. Burial will be private.
