Daniel D. Freedman, 69

Dateline: Norton, MA

Daniel D. Freedman, age 69, a lifelong resident of Norton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at home on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Sandra M. (Keene) Freedman, to whom he was wed for thirty-two years.

Born in Boston, MA on August 18, 1954, he was a loving son of Laura C. (Coffin) Ruta of Norton and the late David D. Freedman.

Dan grew up and was educated in Norton and was a 1973 graduate of Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School. He worked as an engineer and recently retired from Becton Dickinson in Warwick, RI, following five years with the company. Dan formerly worked, also as an engineer, for twenty-eight years at the former Texas Instruments in Attleboro.

Dan’s family was truly his greatest gift in life and his second love was a passion for playing golf. He was also a longtime New England Patriots season ticket holder, enjoyed taking walks and times spent in Newport, Rhode Island and at the family’s home in New Hampshire.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his devoted children: Daniel D. Freedman, II and his wife Olivia of Milton, Vermont, Zachary B. Freedman of Norton and Alexandria M. Grandjean and her husband Jake of Jacksonville, Florida. He was the cherished and proud grandfather of Nicolas Grandjean. He was the dear brother of Barbara Laffoley of Brunswick, Maine, June Cauldwell and her husband Greg of Mount Vernon, Maine, Christopher Ruta and his wife Therese of Norton, Laura Keene and her husband Guy of Norton and the late Theresa Ruta and Janet Freedman. He was the much-loved brother-in-law of Benton Keene, III and his wife Michelle of Attleboro, Guy Keene and his wife Laura of Norton, Richard Keene and his wife Joann of Norton, Bryan Keene and his wife Roseanne of Wrentham and Cheryl Liddell and her husband Robert of Rehoboth. He was the adoring son-in-law of the late retired Norton Police Chief Benton Keene, Jr. and his late wife Marguerite Keene. He is also survived by his loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, December 4th from 3:00-5:30 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.

A funeral service will be held at the conclusion of visitation at 5:30 P.M. on Monday in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
