Obituary


Marllon Dewane “Wayne” Carter, 91, passed away at home on November 27, 2023 following an extended illness.

He was born on October 5, 1932 in Timothy, Tennessee, the son of Rosier L. and Auda Mae (Garrett) Carter. He attended Oak Grove School in Tennessee and entered the United States Air Force in 1952 to retirement. He later worked for Albea’s Plumbing and Heating and Emge Meat Packing Company .

Wayne was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, YMCA, Life Member of American Legion Post #127, USAF Sgt. Association, honorary member of Navy MAC#836, AARP, Madison County Historical Association, and enjoyed fishing and relaxing with family and friends at Lake Wawasee.

He is survived by his wife, Emily J. (Elpers) Carter, whom he married August 2, 1981; children, Marllon Carter Jr., Lynda Malysa (Steve), Glenda Janine Huffman (Craig), Ronald Jeffrey Carter, Shane Roger Carter (Megan); daughter-in-law, Cindy Carter.

Grandchildren, Alexander Carter, Ronald Carter II, Christina Carter, Meliah Wray, Ian Wray, Michael Carter, Matthew Carter, Dainon Wray, Adam Carter, Natalie Wray, Rhori Carter, Noah Carter, Justin Carter. Step grandchildren; Clinton Huffman, Casey Huffman, Jacob Huffman, Zach Huffman . Several great grandchildren and special nieces, nephews and cousins.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, his son Steven Dewane Carter, his sisters Agnes Phillips and Cozetta Bilyue, Jo Ann Bilbrey, Trudy McDonald; his brothers, James Carter, Arlis Carter, and granddaughter, Kachina Carter.

A private family funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Friday, December 1, 2023. Burial will take place at East Maplewood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Mary’s Church or St. Vincent DePaul Society.
