Benjamin C. Chace, 87, of Tiverton, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at home with his family by his side. He was the husband of Nancy (Smith) Chace, to whom he had been married for 64 years.
Mr. Chace was born in New York City, son of the late William N. and Isabel (Jameson) Chace, and had resided in Tiverton since 1944. He served in the U.S. Army, owned The Tiverton Insurance Agency, and co-owned Fort Church Properties. Ben was always happiest sailing on the Sakonnet Passage or walking and trail cutting at the Mill Pond. He loved animals and always seemed to make a special connection with family pets, especially the dogs. When going on skiing or sailing trips, Ben always got his family to their destination safely and on time, no matter what the conditions. But what Ben loved best about going on trips was coming home.
Survivors, along with his wife, include his sons, William S. Chace and Robert C. Chace; brother, N. Jameson Chace; sisters, Constance Arnzen and Carol M. Volkmann; grandchildren, Meredith E. Chace and Nathaniel D. Chace; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Tiverton Libraries.
