Obituary

Thomas Joe “Tommy Joe” Hay, 74, formerly of Anderson passed away on November 27, 2023 at Community North Hospital following an extended battle with Parkinson’s.

He was born on August 25, 1949 in New Castle, IN to the late Thomas Jefferson and Mildred A. (Upchurch) Hay. He was a graduate of New Castle High School in the class of 1967. He went on to Anderson University where he earned degrees in Elementary Education and Criminal Justice.

He was a detective for Anderson Police Department for 38 years and retired in 2010. He was also a security guard at Roll Arena for 40 years.

He attended East Side Church of God. He was a member of Fellowship Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, journaling, weather watching, farming, and especially watching all of his grandchildren’s activities.

He is survived by his wife, Linda (Farst) Hay of Fishers whom he married on August 15, 1970 in New Castle, IN; three children, Rick (Amy) Hay of Arcadia, Angie (Jason) Miller and Alicia (Josh) Ahnert all of Fishers; a sister, Priscilla (Jerry) Hudson of Anderson; seven grandchildren, Maddie, Cooper, Cash, Levi, Hunter Merritt, and Dorothy; six nieces and nephews, Brian, Kelly, Jim, Kim, Debbie, Kathy, Kirk, and Lisa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Tony.

Funeral services will be at 2:00pm on Friday, December 1, 2023 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Rev. Gary McCaslin officiating. Burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery.

A visitation will be from 12:00pm-2:00pm on Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Parkinson’s Foundation.
