Robert Truman Flynn passed away on Sept. 23, 2023 at his home in Boston. He was 51. Robert was born in Pompton Plains, N.J. to Anna Mae T. (nee Cancro) and William J. Flynn.
A graduate of Pequannock Township high school, Robert went on to Culinary School at Newbury College and then on to earn a hospitality degree at Boston University. A devout Yankee fan, living in Boston he would say he felt like a “pilgrim in an unholy land.” (that’s a line from “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, probably his second favorite movie next to “The Godfather”).
He worked for many years at Boston University Dining Services with Aramark. Taking on the role of Marketing Manager, he stepped away from the "Front of the House" Dining Services Director role and changed how Aramark communicates socially to this day. Using humor and thoughtfulness Robert engaged the higher education community and became a nationally recognized account. His role led BU Dining Services' twitter account to be the first Verified higher education dining services in the country.
After his role there, Robert went on to help the elderly as a manager on the elder abuse hotline for UhealthSolutions.
A great guy to be around, Robert loved life. He went to London to watch his Yankees whoop the Sox and then on to Paris, a city he fell in love with. He was even learning French in hopes of returning.
He will be sorely missed every single day by his sister, Maureen and brothers, Kevin, Bryan and Michael and sister-in-law Melissa, along with his nieces and nephews, Sofia, Paolo, Liam, Joseph, Ben, Bella and Macie Mae.
Interment will be Sat. Dec. 9, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the First Reformed Church Cemetery, 529 Newark-Pompton Tpke., Pompton Plains, N.J. A memorial is planned for the future.
