Coy Chester “Shorty” Barber, 69, of Tifton passed away Monday, November 27, 2023, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 30, 2023, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Josh Bennett officiating. Mr. Barber will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 30, 2023, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Greg Hilton, Matt Harten, Freddie Lee "Bean" Roberts, Shannon Luke, Jamie Dove, Brandon Butler and Charles Hill will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Baker, Troy Tapp and Harold Tawzer.
Born March 12, 1954, in Moultrie, Mr. Barber was the son of the late Vernon Chester Barber and Mary Catherine Thomas Barber. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Troy Alvin Barber and Vernon Leroy Barber. He owned and operated Shorty’s Produce in Tifton. He enjoyed serving his customers and being with his grandchildren. His grandson, Tyler Barber, passed away on November 28, 2023, a day after Shorty passed away.
Mr. Barber is survived by his wife, Ann Cross Barber of Tifton; one son, Wesley Barber of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Michael Johnson of Tifton; one grandson, Grant Barber; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary and Ray Walker of Tifton and Cathy Lott of Omega; a sister-in-law, Diane Barber of Tifton; and several nieces and nephews.
