James E. “Jim” Kent, age 91, a 61-year resident of Winchester, passed away on November 25, 2023. He was the beloved husband for 69 years of Carol S. (Croft) Kent.
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Anna (Brock) Kent. Jim was raised and educated in Mt. Vernon, IA. He attended Iowa State University, where he received his B.S. in Engineering. He then attended Northeastern University after relocating to the Boston area, where he earned his MBA in Management. Jim spent the majority of his engineering career at Draper Laboratories and retired in 1994.
In his spare time, Jim volunteered as a Boy Scout Leader with Troop #506 for many years. He also enjoyed various activities, hobbies, awards, recognitions, family, and worldwide travel. Known in his day for his athleticism, his family recalled that he had held the Mount Vernon, Iowa long jump record for over 30 years.
In addition to his wife Carol, and brother Paul Kent, Jim is lovingly survived by his children: David Kent and his wife Ruby of New Boston, NH, Martin Kent and his wife Linda of Amherst, NH, Anne Miller and her husband Jeff of Solon, IA, James W. Kent and his wife Jane of East Windsor, NJ, Jane Kent and her husband Chet Provoda of Ann Arbor, MI; 10 grandchildren: Hilary Hall and her husband Tristan, Amy Kent, Risa Kent, Garrett Kent and his wife Mikaela, Stephanie Kent, Kyle Rohlwing, Calvin Rohlwing, Nicole Kent and her husband George Balla, Cameron Kent and Peter Kent. He also leaves behind 4 great-grandchildren: Aspen Rohlwing, Peter Hall, Oliver Hall and Nora Hall.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Friday, Dec. 1 from 3-5PM. A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 10AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited and are asked to meet directly at the church.
